Faux Alligator

Here's a technique to try: Faux Alligator
It's easy!

You need: card stock (I used Basic Black), Versamark, Embossing Powder (I used clear), heat tool.

So I used our adorable new mini purse die, they're so cute --- I just wanna keep making little purses! You could fill them with candy or flowers or money or love...whatever. Or you could just be like me and make little purses cuz they're easy and fun !

First you want to turn over that Versamark pad and cover your whole piece (in my case, the die cut out) with Versamark ink.

Then, you will cover the whole thing with embossing powder, for this one you could use black EP on the black card stock, or clear EP, I didn't have enough clear for everyone so we used the Cherry Scented clear EP and told myself it wasn't Cherry scented, it was Leather scented. Hey, I never said I wasn't odd.

When you shake the excess off it should look kinda like this:

Then, you take your bone folder or stylus or dull pen or fingernail or fondue skewer...mmmm fondue.... and 'draw' some lines through the embossing powder. You don't want them to be too straight, so don't get too uptight about this step.

Then you heat it with an embossing heat tool and you've just created yourself some Faux Alligator! Aren't you fabulous?!

A big shot Swing card

Looky how pretty this card is!

I needed to challenge myself for a project I was doing, and decided to try a new technique--- The Big Shot Swing Card. Now, I've made other swing cards, they're OK (if I'm being truthful--they're a PITA), so I wasn't very optimistic...but, it was easy and I'm thrilled with the results. I found a video on YouTube by stampladee that showed very easy, simple directions. I can't make a link for some reason, so search for her (stampladee), it's just called 'Big shot swing card'.

My recipe:
Stamps: Layered Labels, Betsy's Blossoms
Card stock: Tangerine Tango, Whisper White, Floral District DSP
Ink: Tangerine Tango, Lucky Limeade, Baja Breeze Classic, Versamark
Accessories: Stampin' Dimensionals, White EP, Old Olive Scallop Polka Dot Ribbon, Basic Pearls, Top Note die, Apothecary Accents Framelits, Large Oval Punch

Paper Beads and new stuff

Here's a card I made for my 'Sixth Swap' group this month. I used pretty new paper and stamps from the new catalog. I also took some inspiration from Stampin' Up!s demonstrator only magazine this month and made some paper beads. They're easy, and fun and they make pretty accents.

Cut a pennant shaped piece of paper, experiment with sizes...the one for the bead on my card is probably 1.5" wide at the bottom and about 4" longish. Put some white glue from the pointed tip to near the fat end, but not all the way or it will stick to the toothpick. Starting at the wide end, roll up the paper over a toothpick. The glue will help it stick together. Set the toothpick over the rim of a small glass etc. so the bead can dry. I brushed a bit of Crystal Effects over my finished, dried bead so it would be shiny and purty...what do you think?

StampSets: Betsy's Blossoms
Cardstock: Rich Razzelberry, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Floral Destrict DSP
Ink: Rich Razzelberry and Daffodil Delight Classic, Versamark
Accessories: White EP, Daffodil Delight Stitched Ribbon, Beautiful Butterflies die, Crystal Effects, Scallop Trim border punch, 2 1/2" circle punch, 3/16" corner punch, sticky strip, Simply Scored

This weeks mission: figure out how to get a little thingy along the side of my blog that links you directly to the online catalog and my online store. If someone were to give me a hint with this I sure would be happy. In the meantime, you'll just have to head there the old fashioned way.... By heading to http://Valerie.stampinup.net.
